Nova Scotia- (by Robbie Bush.)  I just returned from a trip to Nova Scotia and although I have been a few times, I spent most of my time in Halifax with a few days touring the southern coast to show my daughter and a quick trip to Charlottetown, PEI to “see what I could see”. Unfortunately we headed back sooner that we wanted to ride out a hurricane. Here are my observations for this trip. The southern coast is still our favorite for small but entertaining towns and I gauge towns by quality of shopping, eating, accommodations and overall ambiance, admittedly subjective. However, the best food was the lobster roll in Victoria, PEI, a small coastal village between the bridge and Charlottetown. They put whole lobster meat in a bun! Every other place we tried lobster rolls they were chopped so much that I could not identify what I was eating. The best meal of the trip was actually the culinary school in Charlottetown PEI. The students, overseen by a chef who had been to Lafayette, served a delicious array of food and recommended a wonderful wine to pair. The worst food was at the 4 star restaurants in Halifax! Overcooked, under-seasoned and not worth any price. We stayed at the Prince George in Halifax and the rooms and service were excellent. In fact service and attitude in Nova Scotia is certainly tops compared to almost anywhere. We stayed at the Great George Hotel in Charlottetown and while interesting, great service, nice room, I did not find the price or the view was justified for the stay. By that time I had little desire to lug a suitcase up 3 floors and have a view of the parking lot. $400 for a suite was not on par with the view and while the room was nice and the staff better, I would suggest the Delta Prince unless you want the B&B feel.
Best tip-stay at the Prince George in the George or Prince suite and order the chipotle poached eggs for breakfast in the room!
